DIY - Mazda2 OEM Foglight Install

After seeing the lights with the new retrofit, I had no choice but to order the OEM foglight kit to complete the front end look. I was able to call up a local mazda dealer who so happened to be putting an order in for next day delivery. The installation was probably a total of 20 minutes. I even painted the round ring inserts flat black to match the rest of the cover.  Below will be a DIY since the forums have alot of questions about installing the OEM fogs on a sport model.  FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ASKED IF THE SPORT MODEL IS PREWIRED FOR OEM FOGLIGHTS, THE ANSWER IS YES!!!!

DIY SECTION

I am not going to explain bumper removal much, but you will need to remove the bumper, there are 2 bolts at the top, and I believe a total of 6 screws under the bumper, along with 4 clips on top.

  1. Remove the Foglight covers from the bumper.  They are clipped on.  Use a flathead screwdriver and carefully remove them, I repeat carefully these tabs will easily break off.
  2. Once the covers are removed, you can go ahead and take the foglights and screw them into the back of the bumper with the provided screws in the kit.  There is only one way these fog lights will seat correctly.  There are some guided holes that will match them up.
  3. Now put the bumper aside and go into the car to install the switch.  THIS IS SOLD SEPARATELY SO MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE OEM SWITCH!
  4. You must remove the steering column plastic cover, the top half is held to the bottom by clips so all you have to do is start pulling upward until it unsnaps away from the bottom.
  5. Once they are separated you will have to turn your steering wheel 90 degrees to reveal two screws that secure the bottom half of the column cover.
  6. Once this is removed you can gain access to the switch arm.
  7. Start by unplugging the harness from the bottom of the switch arm.
  8. The arm is held by a tab, take a flat head screwdriver and pry the tab a bit and basically slide the switch arm upwards and it comes right out.
  9. Now take the new switch and slide it right into place as the original was.
  10. Plug the new switch in.
  11. Now go back to the bumper and plug in the harness that is already prewired in your sport model into the foglights and switch them on to make sure everything is working correctly before bolting everything back up.
  12. now go ahead and put the column back on in reverse order.
  13. You may now slide and snap in the foglight plastic surround covers on the bumper.
  14. Put the bumper back on same as you removed it.
  15. Congratulations you now have fog lights!

  4. Replacing switch arm.

It should be noted, there is a screw on the bottom shell of the steering column in addition to the two on the front. The bottom shell then slides back to the driver to be removed; this is easiest accomplished with the steering wheel locked as far up as possible.

Also note the tab you need to push to pull up the original arm is top, middle, and center. Tab pushes to the right that holds the switch arm and it pulls up and out.

    Thanks for the write up!

  5. Here in Australia we have 4 Models of Mazda 2 2018. The Basic, Neo, The MAXX, The Genki and GT. I bought a Maxx DJ MY17. I am wondering whether it is pre wired for Fog Lights?
Would appreciate if anyone knows where to buy the OEM switch for right hand driving car because over here we drive on the right hand side. What is shown is for left hand driving Mazda like in US. Thanks
